About Me

I am True Lewis. Retired Veteran of the US Army. A Daughter of the American Revolution.

I have thoroughly researched my Great Great Granddaddy Ike Ivery who was enslaved, and widowed twice and had 23 Children, along with my Mother’s European Heritage.

I also co-host Black Pro Gen LIVE on YouTube along with Nicka Smith of Who is Nicka Smith?

We are a group of professional genealogists who research and document African American Families. Weekly, we share our research strategies and experiences along with current events and happenings in genealogy and share them with the public as a teaching tool to help guide them in their quest for their Family History.

I have been researching my family since 1998, but genealogy started for me at the age of 9 in 1977. I just didn’t know it was called genealogy. That’s when it hit me that life was bigger than the circle I was in.

Being African American and finding out I come from slaves and being German/European always made me wonder how can all these different nationalities be in one person?

That quest to know has always fascinated me. I always took everything I learned about myself from whatever resources, and that is where it led me in 2012 when I started my blog. it is my personal diary where I write Notes to Myself about My True Roots. My areas of research are Alabama and Pennsylvania. My primary research is African American and slavery research.

In my spare time, I’m busy being Grandma!  Reading historical fiction or visiting history wherever it meets me. Courthouses, cemeteries, museums, or down a dusty road in my travels.

I am also a member of Bullock County Genealogical Society in Union Springs, Alabama.
