Celebrating my 4th Blogiversary with You!
4 Years! WoW!
I had a Wonderful Year. I'm still Pressing Forward!
Thank You all so Much for keeping me uplifted and encouraged.
So much has happened! I don't even know where to start.
My Rootstech Journey!
What a learning experience! All that information in one place for 5 days went way to fast!
My Induction Ceremony into the DAR was wonderful. All the work was well worth it. My highlight of the year. July 5th, 2016.
I got to spend time in Pa and visit Dauphin County Historical Society and met Mr. Frew and Mr. Calobe Jackson, Jr.
Visiting the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg, Pa.
I attended MAAGI this year and had a Wonderful time learning at the Institute. I also got to visit the Allen County Public Library all this was on my Bucket List.
I do know that I will continue to have growth. I'm challenging myself to writing more intricate pieces on research.
I want to write more on how I have solved so many challenges in Genealogy with my personal research.
I appreciate all of you that come by and visit and make comments.
Thank You! to All for Celebrating
4 Years! with My True Roots!
Best Regards!
How did I miss the 1 Slave in My Patriots Household ? Could it be True?
I have so much research to do. I spent 3 years searching and documenting my Patriot! Somehow this got overlooked. No one said a Word. How did I miss this as much as I have studied and researched him.
There are way over 9,000 Ancestry Trees that have him researched and close to as many who have this Document attached to Nicholaus Barrick and no one is talking about it or has any notes regarding this.
Now I'm on a Quest to find out if this is True or False and who this Person is!

I have to look for all the Court Records and Newspaper articles on this Lawsuit. This road was named after my Family.
Feagin Mill Road has a long history from Georgia to Alabama.
I also visited SocietyPerry Historical Society and Houston Home Journal. They still have the original presses.

My True Roots Village. Family. Sweet Home Alabama.
This is just an example of why My True Roots isn't alone in her work here at her Blog. It takes a family like mine that helps me to give you these Stories and Photos.
Like my Cousin James.
Aunt Ossie mentioned in this letter is Granddaddy Ike's Daughter. James's mother is Granddaddy Ike's Daughter as well. James is his grandson.
This Painting was also used in our
Our Family Documentary
Many Thanks to Cousin James and Mr. Richardson for this awesome piece of art he did on on our Ancestral hometown.
I'm always so grateful. I just wanted you to see a glimpse into why I have so much love for what I do.
My Family.....
They are what keeps My True Roots going.

This will be a Journey to the New World we need to Pursue.
A Time where everyone can see - feel - hear - and touch our History & Culture.
A Journey into time to present day what our Life's Journey has been in this Country.
When no book I could find as a child could teach me. Or show me who I was. I was lucky if People of Color got a mention in my History books.
I only learned in my Home. I only seen 2 Black Teachers in all my Education in the same school District from Kindergarten to High School. It took till I was an adult to comprehend and learn on my own the History of my People.

My True Roots Memories
My People were brought here to America as Slaves. Brought to the State of Alabama from the Carolinas. In 1865, My 4th Great Grandparents William & Minta Ivey were married legally after being together for 15 years and 6 children later. They had children that were born on the soil in Alabama. 8 Generations later that I have documented and researched. Not counting the many that are lost through Slavery.
My folks were a Mighty People of resilience. Now the World gets to see it in all it's Glory!
Now you can get taught the true meaning of our Contributions and how this Country was built by People of Color and how we have true meaning as Contributors to a Free Society.
There will be no more excuses. You can see it for your own eyes. If you didn't know. Now you KNOW!
I'm so Proud of my History & Culture. This is a personal Investment for future Generations. They have a place to commune and celebrate their Heritage.
This will be part of the Healing & Reconciliation this Country so desperately needs.
I can't even fully express my Pride & Joy! I can't wait to Visit this Summer.
I can't wait to experience the Museum with my Children's Children's Children's.

Playing with Ancestry Shared DNA Match Tool 🌿
Playing with Ancestry Shared DNA Match Tool 🌿
Today. I was looking at some of my Message Boards that I have SAVED from the Past. Just to make sure I was getting notified on new Posts or Comments and Responses from old Threads.
Last week Ancestry rolled out a new feature to some 10% of it's customers. Not sure when the rest will receive the rollout.
The feature lets you integrate within the rest of Ancestry about your DNA to keep you from going back and forth so much to the Homepage. You will start to see it in other segments of Ancestry as they go along.
I just happened to notice it in Message Boards or did I not?
Where else if you are Beta testing the New Feature have you seen it within Ancestry's Walls?
This is how it's supposed to be used when I use it for the other Kit I manage, my Cousin James.
There are several people included in this List. One is my 3rd Cousin. Her Grandmother and my Grandfather are Siblings. But we all share Granddaddy Ike Ivery in different Grandparent degrees.

Me & Cousin James
Then when I click on James's Name. The NEW feature shows me and James SHARE. It does it with the rest of my KNOWN Cousins as well.
As I was going to my Message Board. Certain names were highlighted. I'm assuming they are Members and or DNA Tested. I'm not sure of the clickable highlighted names purpose.
When I click on the Name of the Person in Message Boards it lets me know if this Person is on my DNA List or not.
That's how I ran into all this today. Not sure if it's a Glitch? Or what they call integrated into the rest of the Website.
These are the two types of examples I ran into so far.

A Match on DNA Homepage. I don't match. I do match a KIT they Manage.
The above image is of a person on my Match List from the DNA Homepage. I click on their Username it lets me know I don't match them but a Kit they manage.
Don't know of the inaccuracies or if it's wonky? Or is it just me messing around and trying to make something out of nothing? I had fun for a hour to see consistencies and to see if any of those Queries were any kin to me on the same board by DNA.

- Me -
When I went to a Board where I know I replied and clicked my name. It shows I'm not on my own DNA list.
Otherwise it was fun Playing around with Ancestry Shared DNA Tool 🌿 today.
I'm trying to get more information, so please be patient with me. I'll have more information when I find out.
If you can leave me a NoTe or Comment to give me suggestions or an explanation, that would be AWESOME!
🌿
NoTe To MySeLf:
I tried to look for my 4th Cousin Linda on the Message Boards to see if she would be on the "Shared Match" New Tool. Her Board name is different from her DNA Results name she uses. So that may be a issue at a later time. We know she matches me and she is on my List through the homepage of DNA Results. This still has potential and I'm gonna keep coming back to it and trying different methods. I hope it's fine tuned as well and not just a Glitch. I would love to see my DNA Matches in other places around Ancestry besides the DNA Homepage.
Best Regards, True- 🌿
A Daughter of the American Revolution
My Patriot
Johann Nicholas Barrick
Johann Nicholas Barrick "My Patriot" was born on August 2, 1761 in Greenwich, Pennsylvania. He married Anna Maria Lambert ( Lambertie) variations in 1783. They had four children in 23 years. He died on July 20, 1844 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, having lived a long life of 82 years.
As you can see, my Patriot is from Pennsylvania. I was born and raised in Pennsylvania so it was only natural for me to make my final decision to choose a Chapter in Pennsylvania. Mother and Daughter - We joined together!
5th Great Grandfather Nicholas Barrick.
Grandfather Nicholas served with the 6th Battalion of Berks County, Pa Militia. He was mustered in for the Revolutionary War. He received a pension from 1837- until his death in 1844. When the Revolutionary War was over, he was deeded land from his Father Henry who we see has having the last name of Berg. He shared this land with his brother John in Pennsylvania. The family ended up moving to Queen Annes County in Maryland about 1790 where Nicholas worked as a bricklayer on the new courthouse.
It took me four years to order and research, to get my Application for the DAR completed. It was well worth the Fight! It was quite the experience with this type of lineage research gaining and ordering sources and proving connections generation to generation and how it's suppose to be done correctly. It took every ounce of my belief and others that this could be possible.
I want to Thank some very patient Genealogy Friends along the way who encouraged me and had my back along the way. Even when I was pouting and throwing my hands up at a few turns. They kept me encouraged.
There was even a "Group" made for me to go back and forth on theories and have a workstation, just for me to concentrate solely on my application and get moral support.
There was a Mondays with Myrt! program I had attended from Dear Myrtle. All this came about because I yelled out of place in our Chat Room and my hand went up like a school girl who couldn't wait to be answered from the teacher! We were having a discussion and somehow DAR came up. Cousin Russ and Dear Myrtle said "Who was that?" and her light bulb went off!
That is how the ball got rolling! With her weekly Wacky Wednesday she took time and patience with Cousin Russ to have a Hangout designed around me and my Patriot. She gathered all the resources she had available and got me surrounded with a Group of Ladies that went well beyond the "Call of Duty", like Soldiers do. They had a plan.
I was introduced to Marian Kowalski and Sheri B. Fenley along with Carmen Cross and Brenda Hare. Their work was impeccable.
They had all my Documents lined up and advised me on, what do you do next? They were my 2nd pair of eyes with glasses. For one, I had approached my application in the wrong way. DAR research is different from tree building.
You see where I'm going with this?
Collaboration at it's best! The Genealogy Community came out for one of it's own.
By the time Dear Myrtle and her Community got through with me I had a completed DAR worksheet with all that I had researched and saw where my 3 weakest links where to work on so I could continue to the home stretch.
In February, 2016 after Rootstech I was able to Submit my Application to my Registrar.
On April 25th, 2016. The Letter I was waiting on came with the news I needed more Documentation. Hard lessons to learn and more research.
I am now as of July 5th, 2016 a Member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
