Jana Last of Jana's Genealogy and Family History Blog asked me to be on the "sofa chat" with her Interview in the Media Hub. I sat right beside Jill Ball of GeniAus. I was in the right place at the right time. Thanks Jana! for this special memory and AncestorCloud for this Gift.
Paula Madison on her Inspiring Story on her Grandfather Samuel Lowe. I ran into people all day long. You must get your Selfie or Speak to them as you see your Gen Buddies.
It's such a busy time you don't know if you'll run into them again. I took every opportunity I could to speak to so many people who's blogs and products I follow. I just didn't want it to go unnoticed that I enjoy and appreciate their Work. Deep inside I was hoping and happy when I did get a 2nd chance.
I got to meet the Youngest Ambassador for Rootstech Ruby Baird by chance as I was turning the corner. Her mother was very gracious when I asked if it was okay to take a picture. She even took it for me. So sweet! ❤︎. Very bright young lady.

Afternoon: I spent all afternoon in the Exhibit Hall! My last post you will see all the photos I took from that. From Innovators Alley and beyond. Soda and Water was FREE everyday! They had food vendors everywhere. I was steady grubbing. I'll also ran around the Exhibit Hall meeting Innovators. Leaving my address labels with Vendors for drawings. Everything was catching my eye. In the Genealogy World we call them BSO's. I was BSO'ed out ALL DAY long. There was always something around making me go to get a closer look. So glad I did.....you'll see what I mean in my wrap up post.

❀ Moms Aprons ❀

Mom's Apron
Aprons that resonate with me the most were during Slavery.
Child birth. The big house. The fields.
Those aprons have many stories to tell.....
Just like my Mom and the Womenfolk before her and her and her.
I mostly remember Mom had her "everyday" ones or her "good" ones she used for Church Socials. Doily fancy ones for Company. She had one place for them in a special drawer only for aprons and clean fresh brand new kitchen towels.

Mom. Jan,1970.
This was taken in 1970. Mom was 47. She was dealing with a 2 year old, Me. This is The House that Built Me.
She looks tired this day. I'm sure I had some part of it. I don't know how she did it? Day in, day out. 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week. She was suppose to be all alone with Daddy enjoying being a empty nester, with visiting Grandchildren. Not raising one.
I had my eyes, nose, hands and face wiped with those Aprons. Ive seen them take out hot sweet potato pies from the oven. I've seen them in the Garden helping to hold the bounties of fresh vegetables. Squash, Peppers, Beans and Peas and such.
Then there is my Grandma Lillian Mary Johnson Sweigard!
Even Grandma Lil had a Apron. I'm so glad Mom saved this for me.
I noticed everything in the background. I cherish this photo. I was only 3 when Grandma Lillian died. So I have no memory. These few and rare photos I have of her are so precious to me.

My Army Apron
When I went in the Army, I earned my own Apron. Since I'm a Granny now. Lovingly called "Nannie". I will pass this tradition on to her. I will let her see me in my Apron. Comfort her and wipe her tears or a smudge on her face. Just like my Mom did for me.
I have Mom's Aprons saved for Pudding for when she starts a family in the far future.
Moms saved Apron for Pudding
When Mom and Daddy passed away. We started in the kitchen. Going through the cabinets. I knew that drawer was filled with her most cherished items.
Aprons were just one.....
Those Aprons were a source of comfort to me. With smells of fresh baked something or just the smell of all that good comes from Mother Earth.
Mom's Aprons
Just a NoTe To MyseLF.....
Where I'm From
Where I'm From...
I'm from a old dusty red handled flour swifter, from fried okra, and sweet bread.

I’m from a remembered 4 story home, with a barn, ruled by my Mother’s voice and by my Father’s presence.
I’m from home grown variety gardens full of Collard Greens, Peppers, and Tomatoes. Acorns and Leaves. Azalea bushes, fresh cut grass; along with Honeysuckle lamb in summer.
I am from big hearted, big eyes, high cheeks, with smiles long as the Mississippi River, all from a Granddaddy we only heard about, thru his Son J.E. and his wife Tinnie.
I’m from a lineage of Slaves, Sharecroppers, Civil Rights Advocates, Soldiers and Intellectual People of Wisdom.
From, “When one life was taken, another was Given”, now you better “Run with it”.
I’m from a heritage of “We Baptist up in Here”, foot-stomping, hand clapping, singing Ol’ Time Religion songs, Chairman of the Deacon Board, Reverends,Doctors, Lawyers and Teachers all out of a small school called Merritt School for the Colored.
I’m from a small town called Oberlin. With parts of Midway, Alabama and Bonaire, Georgia with a touch of South Carolina. From Ancestors who were West African, Yoruba, with deep European roots that stretch along from the eastern shores all the way down south to Florida.
From mealtimes that included rice and something fried along with a piece of some 2- tiered cake Mom made of chocolate or coconut.
From, trips "Down Home" in the summer, were all my family gathered to have a good time, even in sorrow. We always had a feast spread out by the Elders. I come from barefoot walks to Ms. Mary Thomas’s candy store where 1$ could by you a small brown bag full of goodies.

I’m from the Slave, Ike Ivery, and his unbeknownst slaveowner. From Lizzie Jordan a Slave woman who bore children from the Irishman and her born into slavery husband George Daniel. She was a Woman of her time. Rumored to be a BlackFoot Indian and African. I’m from a Patriot from Pa with the Barrick name.
I am from a crowd of beautiful faces of all shades of color from white to latte, honey to chocolate. From Love and Hate, from a place where you can’t put a price on our soul or our body. From a place were we are all counted and a place where we are Somebody to Everybody. That’s our Treasure of Worth.
From my friend Lisa D. Cooper. She showed me who she was through writing her story. I want to share and show you some of ME. Thank You Lisa!
